NEW YORK (AP) – Adoption advocates have united in dismay over
“Orphan,” a horror movie opening next week that they say will
fuel negative attitudes toward real-life orphans.
Some adoption advocates are urging a boycott. A national
coalition is not joining that call but wants a meeting with Warner
Bros. CEO Barry Meyer.
In the movie, a couple decide to adopt a girl from an orphanage.
Their happiness turns to unease and fear as the child turns out
differently from what they expected.
Warner Bros. says it has taken the concerns seriously and has
already removed a particularly controversial line from the trailer.
Spokesoman Scott Rowe says the company is also considering
adding a pro-adoption message at the end of the film when it comes
out on DVD. I have a different opinion about adoption. My cousins were adopted. I don’t think that they are loved any less than the rest of us. I plan to adopt some children. The comments made by Matt this morning. I do not agree with at all. I would hate to think that parents love their adopted children less then there biological children. There are so many children that need good homes and need someone to love them unconditionally.
