I regret to report that, no sooner had I written my last blog, I found myself flirting with someone on facebook who had obviously found me because of being on the Planet staff because of our mutual friends Dex and Intern Tyler (the latter of whom has also had an unfortunate run-in with this crazy individual who we will call Spam, Spamela Wain).  It started out innocent enough as I was just making funny comments on her status which was talking about her wanting to beat Adam Lambert’s gay emo ass.  Well comments turned to messaging and the rest is history.

Well, we made plans to meet on Friday and go out or just chill but then she contacts me on facebook on Thursday telling me her car has broken down in Anderson so I agree to ‘rescue the damsel in distress’ when i got off work later that evening.  So I go and pick her up and we go hang out at my place.  Now, over the years I’ve learned to pick up on certain signs from women and, when she sat down on my couch, she sat in a spot that left just enough room for me to sit right next to her so our legs were touching.  So I got cozy with her as we watched Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.  As we watched the movie (which we both have seen), she confided in me that she has trust issues with men.  Respecting that I didn’t try too many smooth moves so not to set her off.  I did, however, ask if I could kiss her once the movie was over and she said I could.  So we started making out for a few seconds then she started freaking out.  I pulled back but she continued on a tirade so I took her home giving her my two cents worth on the way.

When we pulled up at her place, we sat in the car and talked for an hour or so and somewhat cleared the air.  I then walked her to the door and managed another quick kiss as we said goodnight.

The next day came and I texted her to see if she still wanted to go for round two despite the rocky night before and she said she did and told me to pick her up at 8:30.  Still skeptic from the first round, I dragged ass leaving to pick her ass up and arrived around 8:45 or so.  The night started out ok as we ran by Blockbuster to see Reverend Jim and rented The Hangover and Zombieland on Blu-ray and then ran by the grocery store and Wendy’s to grab some snacks and some grub.

We started with Zombieland since Spam hadn’t seen it yet and I wanted to see it a second time.  I gotta say I enjoyed just a bit more than the first time back in the theater, but the deleted scenes sucked so they were deleted for a good reason!

Zombieland  \m/  \m/  \m/  \n

Next we watched The Hangover which I hadn’t seen and she wanted to watch again (so it worked out overall).  I was skeptical about the movie because, honestly, the previews were NOT funny.  However, I have to admit the movie was pretty funny but still didn’t meet the hype.

The Hangover  \m/  \m/  \m/  \

During the movies, we got a little cozy on the couch, but as soon as the last movie was over she wanted to go home very abruptly.  Granted it was already after two but she had expressed no desire to be home at a certain time all night and was rather rudely insistent on going home so, instead of fighting with her, I hopped up and got ready to leave with as much urgency as her to go – only mockingly as I was obviously perturbed.

On the way back to her place, I remained fairly silent as she went on and on about random crap I honestly no longer cared about.  Finally sensing my agitation, she started on this lecture about how she’s too busy for relationships with her upcoming schoolwork and that I obviously was too because she knew I had just put in a 55 hour work week.  Refusing to let her try and pull a fast one on me I asked her what she was trying to say and pointed out what she undoubtedly already knew: I didn’t care!  Irked by the fact she was trying to get the upper hand on me, I told her it would probably be better if she never called me again and let her know how rude I thought she was to accept my courtesy and then so quickly throw such an icy shoulder.  She agreed that she was rude but showed little or no true remorse and, as she got out of the car she unconvincingly said she was sorry to which I replied, “No you’re not!  F#%k off!” and sped off.  Outside off sending a few pissy text messages later that night, I haven’t heard from her since.  Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Before coming to work last Tuesday I stopped by MY toy store Best Buy and picked up a copy of the movie I thought was the best film to come out this year, Inglourious Basterds the new film by Quentin Tarantino.  The cast, the acting and the script are all superb and Brad Pitt is a riot as Lt. Aldo Raine who leads a band of mostly Jewish Americans into Nazi-occupied France to do one thing and one thing only: KILL NAZIS!

Inglourious Basterds  \m/  \m/  \m/  \m/  \m/

I managed to watch the entire film and a few special features that night before going to bed.  I fully intended to watch the rest of the special features when I got home Wednesday night however, upon arriving, I first noticed my doormat was pushed all the way up to the doorway (I always pull it back an inch or so when I leave) and then I noticed that the front casing of my deadbolt had been chiseled off.  Needless to say that the lock was already opened when I slid my key in and, lo and behold, I found someone had jacked my apartment.  My 40″ LCD TV was gone as well as my PS3 and numerous PS3 games and DVD and Blu-ray movies – including Inglourious Basterds!

After the initial shock wore off and a few minutes of kicking and screaming, I called 911 and filed a police report.  An officer soon arrived followed a bit later by a forensics officer who dusted my apartment for fingerprints as one of my maintenance guys replaced the locks.

The next day I had my checks cancelled to be on the safe side and filed a report with my insurance company.  Keep in mind I still have an applicable $500 deductible and my rates may still go up in June even though this was not my fault in the slightest.

Friday night we had both the Rise Guys Big Ass P1 Christmas Party and the Entercom Company Christmas Party both of which I attended considering it’s no fun being a hermit cooped up in my apartment without my TV and PS3.  The Rise Guys Big Ass P1 Christmas Party was being held in my hometown of Simpsonville at the Zone Sports Bar and Grille and the place was packed!  I had fun hanging with the Original P1 Lauren and P1 Big Counsy and had a paper tube fight with Fat Boy which I unanimously won and earned some much needed stress relief.

During the course of the evening, our transmitter, which sits atop of a big ass mountain in North Carolina, went out due to the perilous winter weather in the area.  The conditions were so severe that our engineering team couldn’t even reach the transmitter until Sunday morning managing to keep us off the air for a whopping 41 hours!

The weather was bad enough locally that a tree fell on Roper Mountain Road and knocked out the power up and down the street….which I live on.  So I ran home after the Rise Guys Big Ass P1 Christmas Party to change into something a little nicer and more business casual for the Entercom Company Christmas Party and did so in the dark.  The power was restored by the time I got home later that night but went off for a while longer during the early morning hours.

I had a great time at the company Christmas party hanging with Intern Tyler, Diesel and some of our lovely promotions staff….and the free food and booze helped a lot too!  We basically shut the place down that night and still tried to find a place in downtown to continue the festivities.  When we found nothing else to do, those of us left parted ways and went home.  Some of us had to sober up just a bit first….

Saturday I ventured out to the deadly malls and other stores of holiday frenzy to do what little shopping my broke and burglarized ass could afford.  I also managed to take in a movie in an attemt to boost my own morale and revive any amount of Christmas Spirit I could muster.  I went and saw The Blind Side, the football biopic with Sandra Bullock.  The film was very heartwarming and inspirational which I definitely needed to lift my spirits.

The Blind Side  \m/  \m/  \m/  \m/

Sunday I went to church for the first time in forever (maybe to try and win favor with the Lord – LOL!) and then went to borrow a small TV/DVD combo from my best friend’s parents who’ve been like a second family to me.  Unfortunately I couldn’t get my digital antenna to work on the set so I didn’t get to watch football but at least got to watch some movies and relax a bit.

I got my renters insurance forms in the mail Monday and filled them out first thing yesterday morning and faxed them to my claim representative.  Now I just gotta wait for the check and try to get as much replaced as possible since I will be receiving $500 less than what my stuff was worth because of the deductible.  Sucks.

Today I wrapped up the 12 Days of Axemas from noon until 2 at First Cash Pawn on Rutherford St in Greenville.  The turnout was great but I had to rush back to the station to be on the air at 2!

Right now I’m trying to wrap up all my work and take the day off tomorrow for Christmas Eve and then come back and do my shift on Christmas Day.

Even though this year has been a rough one for me having had some legal woes, totaling a car, having my new one keyed and then my apartment broken into, I am remaining optimistic that 2010 will be a much better year kicking off a brand new decade.

I want to take a minute to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year in 2010!

Although I had originally told myself to hold out on buying Star Trek on Blu-ray, I found myself heading to Best Buy after work last Tuesday.  I could not resist owning and watching this summer’s biggest action blockbuster on my PS3/Blu-ray player with HDMI cable connected to my Toshiba LCD TV!  B’dis good!

Star Trek  \m/  \m/  \m/  \m/

Friday night after work I went to go pick up Moon, a friend of mine from Columbia who was in town visiting his dad, and went out to Ground Zero for a benefit show with EVERY MANS ENEMY.  Neither of us were feeling great as both of us were having ‘digestive issues’ so we stopped and picked up anti-diarrhea medicine which seemed to settle us both.

We got to the show a little after nine and PARALLEL THEORY was already on stage followed by CHIVALRY featuring former members of EVERY MANS ENEMY.  Next was OBC (ORDER BY CORRUPTION) and then FROM TOMORROW featuring Epps, formerly of HEADSNAP.  EVERY MANS ENEMY went on last to close out the night and help with some of the prize drawings for the benefit.

It was great getting to see some people I haven’t seen in a while since I haven’t been to GZ in quite some time.  Moon spent most of the night getting hammered since I was the good ol’ DD and ended the evening talking to ‘Ralph’ in the GZ bathroom.  I had to go in and guide him out to the car where his empty Walgreens plastic bag awaited him so he blow more chunks on our way back to his dad’s house.  To his credit, he managed not to get a single drop of vomit in my car.  Kudos!

I didn’t get home and in my bed until around 4 a.m. so, needless to say, I was a little less-than-perky getting up five hours later to come in and do an on-air shift.  Quite a few people told me I sounded hungover even though I had only had a shot of Jager(meister) and a Captain (Morgan’s) and Coke earlier the night before.  I was just exhausted and I was hoarse from having to scream in everyone’s ear every time I tried to talk to someone during the show.

When I got off at 2, I went home and ordered some pizza from Wedgy’s and had P1 All Day Toker deliver.  I don’t think I opened my door once the rest of the weekend….

Last Tuesday the new Disney Pixar flick Up was released on DVD and Blu-ray so I, of course, picked it up first thing that morning on the way to the station and watched it first thing after getting home that night.  I enjoyed it just as much the second time around but was able to hold back the tears better than I could in the theater.  Plus the Blu-ray disc (and DVD) includes the animated short “Dug’s Special Mission” which follows Dug up to the point where he enters the film and meets Carl and Russell.  As always, Pixar delivers!

The next night I picked up my brother Anthony who was staying with me for a couple of nights and we went and traded in one of my Blockbuster online movies for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra on Blu-ray.  The movie had a lot of great special effects and a decent enough plot for a summer blockbuster action flick.  The acting wasn’t superb by any means but, then again, I wasn’t expecting Shakespeare or Gone With the Wind.  Not bad.

This weekend I pretty much just stayed in watching movies, football and playing Lego Batman on PS3 which I finally completed.  Sunday I managed to make it to the grocery store so I could take a swing at making Mom’s homemade vegetable soup and cornbread.  After about a hundred calls to my mom, I finally succeeded in bringing her recipe to life and managed to do it justice!  I’m so proud of myself!  No soup for you!

My Halloween weekend started early because last Thursday a few friends and I went to check out the Haunting of Downtown in downtown Greenville.  The house was pretty creepy especially when one of the first rooms featured a young girl resembling the one in The Ring rolling around in a crib that moved eerily across the floor with the added effect of a strobe light.

Friday after getting off work I drove out to Savannah to visit my friend Rebecca and to celebrate Halloween in the notoriously haunted city.

On my way down, I had a chance to listen to the new SLAYER disc World Painted Blood which is, by far, the best album they’ve done in 15 years and is even arguably better than 1994’s Divine Intervention.  The album reminds me of the band’s Reign in Blood and South of Heaven era (‘86-’88) which is what I consider to have been the band’s prime.  I will definitely be reviewing this one in the December edition of CrankIt magazine so be looking out for it and buy the album if you love old school speed/thrash metal as only SLAYER can do it!

On Saturday, we did some last minute Halloween shopping and then went out to River St. to try and get on a haunted tour.  Most tours were booked but we did manage to get on a haunted pub crawl that started just after 9 pm and lasted until nearly midnight.  The tour was great but since we hadn’t eaten dinner, I had a hellacious hunger headache that was only amplified by the beer I had.

When the tour was over, Rebecca and I hit Denny’s and headed back to her apartment so I could pop a couple of ibuprofens and crash!

On Sunday we did even more Halloween shopping since everything EVERYWHERE was 50 % off!

We also rented It’s Alive, the remake of the 1974 campy cult classic of the same name.  Although the original was really bad, this one didn’t do much better and was actually less entertaining than its predeccessor.

Man I love this time of year!  Halloween is this upcoming weekend and I can’t wait!  I’m planning on heading to Savannah to do some haunted tours on Halloween night!  Should be awesome!

Last week we did the first ever Canned Film Festival at Camelot Cinemas where listeners brought in five canned food items to benefit Harvest Hope in order to see their choice of one of five films: Wayne’s World, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Halloween 2009, Transformers and Neato Mosquito featuring Nine from The Rise Guys.  Planet and Rock 101 staff suited up in tuxes provided by Gregory’s Formalwear and walked the red carpet and welcomed listeners to the event.  Even I got all decked out and broadcasted live.  Check me out:

Nothing against Nine, but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to finally see Wayne’s World on the big screen!  The whole event was great and we collected over 1,300 lbs of canned food!  Hey Thanksgiving is on the way and I’d like to think that everyone gets fed for the holiday and all year round!  Thanks to everyone who showed up and made this such a huge success and I look forward to doing this again next year!

Saturday night I went out to the Spirit Halloween Superstore at Cherrydale for some creepy window-shopping since I is broke!  Then I met Rebecca who was in town visiting her folks and we hit the Point of Terror interactive haunted house which is right next to Cherrydale behind Stax.  Once again I was stuck leading the way as I always do at haunted houses this time followed by a mom and her two daughters who were freaking out and crying through the whole thing!

Afterwards, Rebecca decided she didn’t wanna go right back home so we went and saw Saw VI.  I enjoyed the first three films but I haven’t been enjoying the new ‘Jigsaw’ in the past two movies but, surprisingly, this one was a lot better than the last two.  Eh, why not, right?

Saw VI  \m/  \m/  \m/  \

Sunday I slept in and watched Rob Zombie’s new animated flick The Haunted World of El Superbeasto which I had rented after work on Saturday.  The film is a lewd mix of pornography and horror which deserves the new genre entitled horrornomation….or horrornographimation – ok, it’s not working for me!  Just watch it!  Rob Zombie + animated sex and violence = fun adult cartoon!

Friday after work I went downtown for the St. Francis Fall For Greenville to do stage announcements on the BB&T stage.  First up was Shooter Jennings, son of the legendary Waylon Jennings whom he portrayed in the film Walk the Line.  Shooter put on a great show and Jackie Lee and I got to meet him and take some pics with him after the show.

Saturday I got up early and did my shift on the air and then went home to relax the rest of the day and watch some movies.  One movie I watched was the new horror film from producer Bryan Singer (director of X-Men, X2, The Usual Suspects and Superman Returns) Trick ‘r Treat which was actually released two years ago but was, for some reason, just released on Blu-ray and DVD.  The film weaves together several tales of terror and stars some of Singer’s alums from his X-Men films such as Anna Paquin and Brian Cox.  It’s a horrifically fun horror film that truly embodies the spirit of Halloween and is a must-see for Halloween horror fans!

Sunday I went down to visit my stepdad and brother Anthony since I hadn’t seen them in a while, my stepdad especially.  We had some late lunch that Anthony prepared and played some golf and bowling on the Nintendo Wii as well as a game of pool – on a real table!  LOL!

Last night was the Planet’s 13th Birthday Bash with CREED and STAIND at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum!  I got there just in time to hit the stage with Dex and welcome the crowd just before STAIND took to the stage.  After that I spent a lot of time at the Planet table meeting and greeting some of our listeners who were all very enthusiastic about the show!  I had a chance to catch the first few minutes of CREED’s performance complete with some great pyrotechnics and even a 2nd guitarist!

I left a bit early but had a great time as it was the best chance for me to meet as many Planet listeners at one time!  Without you, I’d still be working retail!

Labor Day weekend was just that: laborous!  So, when I wasn’t working, I was out trying to blow my paycheck!  Hey, what’s the point in working relelentlessly if I don’t take some time to go out and enjoy it?!  Friday I met up with Rebecca after work.  Yes, we are on speaking terms again and trying to somehow sort out our differences in some way whether it leads to us seeing each other again or not.  She brought me her latest dog rescuee being she is like the crazy cat lady only with a crapload of dogs instead of cats!  I think she knew I’d be interested in this one being the dog is a Boston terrier and border collie mix and I have always wanted a Boston terrier.  So she brought Molly (the name she gave her being she is fond of giving dogs people names – as for me, I still want a male Boston terrier and name him Vader!) to the apartment and we went to Target to pick up some stuff for the dog (leash, toys, bowls, etc.) and then went to Ruby Tuesday’s for dinner.

Saturday I did little more than do my on-air shift and the same could be said for most of Sunday.  My mom and Aunt Pat came over to see the new addition to the Twisted family and we walked her out to the small man-made lake out by my apartment complex.

Monday, when I wasn’t on the air (again!), Rebecca and I managed to take in a movie: the new comedy spoof Tropic Thunder starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey, Jr.  Of the three lead characters, Downey clearly made his mark portraying “the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude”.  I mean his character stayed in character until the end of the movie!  “I stay in character until I finish the DVD commentary!” I believe he said….and he wasn’t kidding!

And let’s not forget the A-list supporting cast of Nick Nolte, Matthew McConaughey and, oh yes, Tom “Damn, my ass is crazy!” Cruise!  I really enjoyed the film as it was a breath of fresh air from other crappy spoof movies such as the ridiculous Scary Movie saga that has bled over into the even more preposterous Epic Movie, Disaster Movie and all the other ”Fill in the Flippin’ Blank” movies!

And it really pisses me off that everyone is all up in arms about their references to mentally handicapped people as ‘retards’.  I admit it’s in rather poor taste, but isn’t comedy supposed to be unapologetically irreverent?  I mean I just watched the new Harold & Kumar flick on DVD and it’s remorselessly racist!  Being a Christian, I constantly see shows like South Park or especially Moral Orel that make a mockery of my beliefs.  Yes, it offends me, but I simply choose not to watch it if it gets too offensive which I did stop watching the latter of the two shows because it honestly made me feel like a heathen….or worse!  LOL!!!

Tropic Thunder   \m/  \m/  \m/  \n

And here’s a few of the DVDs I’ve watched recently now that I have a steady supply of rentals with Blockbuster Total Access:

I just mentioned how racist Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay was, but don’t get me wrong, it was a riot!  If you liked their first adventure getting to White Castle, you’ll caertainly enjoy this!

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay   \m/  \m/  \m/  \

I pretty much got what I expected out of Prom Night and maybe a little more since it was more bloody and violent than what I would expect from a PG-13 rated slasher flick.  Granted it is painfully obvious that it is not a remake of the Jamie Lee Curtis horror film of the same name.  The character names are different as well as the overall plot of the movie save for the fact that both films occur on (big surprise here!) high school prom nights.

Prom Night  \m/  \m/  \

When Grandma’s Boy first came out, I thought it would be a big piece of crap trying to capitalize on Adam Sandler’s success by throwing a comedy together using a cast full of his supporting cast regulars – but no Sandler.  It turned out being one of my favorite comedies in recent years so I had high hopes for Happy Madison’s latest DVD release Strange Wilderness.  I have to say I was somewhat disappointed.  Don’t get me wrong, it had some rather hilarious moments, but just didn’t deliver a comedy I’d really want to watch again.

Strange Wilderness   \m/  \m/  \n

That’s it!  I’m done and heading home to take care of Molly!

And, no, this is NOT about my trip to the dentist Tuesday!

I recently signed up for Blockbuster Total Access which is basically the Blockbuster version of Netflix only, with their version, you can trade out DVDs with local Blockbuster stores which is totally sweet!  I got my first three DVDs this week and went back and watched Batman Begins for the first time since I saw it in the theater.  I wasn’t a big fan of the grittier, more realistic feel to the new Batman franchise (I believe I mentioned that in my review of The Dark Knight), but since seeing the new film, I wanted to give the first another shot and I am glad I did!

I also got the new horror flick Teeth which I watched last night.  As if I needed another reason to swear women off, I had to sit and watch a film about an extremely chaste teenage girl dealing with her budding sexuality – and the mythical phenomenon known as vagina dentata meaning she has razor-sharp teeth embedded in her womanhood!  Jess Weixler did a great job portraying the homely yet oddly attractive lead character Dawn who is very innocent yet curious about her newfound sexual urges.  She discovers her malicious deformity when she is assaulted sexually by her love interest Tobey.

She then makes the next obvious move and goes to see a gynecologist with more tragic results.  She then seeks solace in the arms of another male admirer only to be taken advantage of by him which, of course, turns out to be a bad move on his ‘part’ (pardon the pun)!  After all this, and a devastating family tragedy, she ‘evolves’ from a sweet, innocent symbol of purity to a vengeful vixen complete with fangs in her nether regions!  I think I’m gonna abstain myself until they invent chain mail condoms!  LOL!!!

Well, let’s see, what’s new?  Friday was a full day which started in my hometown of Simpsonville as I was at Wal-Mart for our annual Rock ‘N’ Roll Up Your Sleeve blood drive.  My dear Aunt Pat was there to see her beloved nephew and to keep me in line as she likes to do to me on the air!  Greg and I were fighting with the Planet ape’s big ass as the concrete buckets kept falling over and my aunt had the genius idea of tying the ape to a couple of sign posts which already grounded in the asphalt.  Way to go, Aunt Pat!

The drive was a HUGE success as, not only was I busy for the two hours I was out at the Simpsonville Wal-Mart (which faces my alma mater Hillcrest High School on the other side of I-385), but apparently all our donor locations were as well as we brought in 575 units of blood compared to 560 last year.  And, for those wondering, we should be drawing for the DROWNING POOL autographed guitar and the PROJECT REVOLUTION tickets over the course of the day as well as picking our photographer for the show.

Friday night, Rebecca and I went out to pay tribute to Uncle Jim at the Jim Minchow Memorial Concert at Ground Zero.  We enjoyed sets from WHISKEY MOUNTAIN MACHINE, BOOLOW and got to see GHOST IN THE MACHINE for the first time as a five-piece since the addition of a second guitarist.  They ended their set with “Down for the Last Time” with guest backing vocals from Jay and J-Bird formerly of EVERY MANS ENEMY.  Afterwards, Jay confirmed the strong possibility of an EME reunion!  At that point, Becca and I were both beat and had to leave and miss HEADSNAP’s set being she had to work in the morning.

Saturday, I stepped out to feed and run a few errands, but, outside of that, I stayed in and vegged on the couch and did pretty much the same on Sunday.  Becca did come over so we could watch Dan in Real Life with Steve Carell.  The movie was actually pretty entertaining considering I am not big on indy comedies.  However, Steve Carell can pull them off as he did with Little Miss Sunshine.  Bill Murray, on the other hand, does not as I did not care for Rushmore nor Lost in Translation.

Dan in Real Life  \m/ \m/ \m/ \n

Yesterday, Paige and Nine made the HUGE announcement of the line-up for BIRTHDAY BASH XII!  Granted, they had to do it since Skip and Matt were both (and still are) sick with vacation coming for them next week (I will say no more).  So, the ticket blitz IS ON!!!  Listen all week as we will giving away tickets to see AVENGED SEVENFOLD, BUCKCHERRY, SHINEDOWN and SAVING ABEL at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum on September 30th before you can buy them on Friday (P1s, you can buy yours on Thursday)!

While on the air yesterday, I checked out Best Buy’s website to see if there was anything worth picking up on DVD since all the decent movies have been confined to theaters this summer.  Being tight in the wallet, I really couldn’t have done much spending, but Best Buy happens to be running a killer sale of $5 DVDs!  I zipped over there immediately after getting off the air and picked up Clerks II, Grandma’s Boy and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle all for five bucks a pop!  Needless to say, I spent last night laughing my ass off watching the movies in their respective order as I have listed them but only making it halfway through the second one before calling it a night.  I did, at least, make it through Grandma making tea out of Alex’s pot and the huge party that stems from the ‘herbal’ tea!  “My grandma drank all my pot!”  Classic!

So, go pick up some killer cheap DVDs and tell them Twisted Todd sent ya since I used to work there!  Who says you can’t buy happiness?!
